Fathers Day

Growing up my Mom hated the Simpsons. When I was younger we did NOT watch the show. Understandably, Mom did not want her already sarcastic daughter influenced by Bart Simpson. A few years later the Simpsons went into syndication and can still be found on some random channel every evening around 5. As I got older I was given more leeway with what I watched…that and Mom did not usually get home until 5:30 or 6pm. This is when I would watch past Episodes. Now, even though a couple of years had past, Mom still had no appreciation for the show but I must admit Dad and I had a few good laughs over Simpson’s episodes.
In honor of Fathers Day here are a few things I learned about Fathers from Homer himself.

6 things that the Simpsons have taught me about Fathers.

They are good at explaining those random things in life
Lisa: Dad, what's a Muppet?
Homer: Well, it's not quite a mop, it's not quite a puppet, but man...
[laughs hysterically]
Homer: So to answer your question, I don't know.
***teaches you about God
Homer: God is teasing me. Just like he teased Moses in the desert.
Marge: *Tested,* Homer. God *tested* Moses.
***insight into love and relationships
Homer: [Bart has offended Lisa, and he's surprised she's visibly angry at him after saying that nothing is wrong between them] Son, when a woman says nothing's wrong, it means everything's wrong. When a woman says everything's wrong, it means everything's wrong. And when a woman says that something *isn't* funny, you'd better not laugh your ass off!

They encourage education and higher learning
Homer Simpson: Books are useless! I only ever read one book, "To Kill A Mockingbird" and it gave me absolutely no insight on how to kill mockingbirds! Sure it taught me not to judge a man by the colour of his skin... but what good does *that* do me?

They know the importance of Moms
Homer: Son, I just want you to know I have total faith in you.
Bart: Since when?
Homer: Since your mother yelled at me.

They encourage you to understand the meaning behind your words.
Marge: [sings] How many roads must a man walk down / Before you can call him a man...
Homer: Seven.
Lisa: No, dad, it's a rhetorical question.
Homer: OK, eight.
Lisa: Dad, do you even know what "rhetorical" means?
Homer: Do *I* know what "rhetorical" means?

They are jokesters…Dads love a good laugh.
Homer: Well crying isn't going to help. Now, you can sit there feeling sorry for yourself or you can eat can after can of dog food until your tears smell enough like dog food until your dog comes back, or you can go out there and find your dog.
Bart: You're right.
[Gets up and leaves]
Homer: Rats. I almost had him eating dog food.

Happy Fathers Day!

Oh my gosh! My mom hated the Simpsons when I was little too and my dad would sneak it and sometimes we'd get to watch it with him. To this day, he does the best Homer Simpson impression.

This was the best!!! Mandy took the time to read this outloud in front of all of our guests that we had at our "Father's day picnic." Needless to say.... the language was changed... we did say "behind." Not everyone understood but I got it!!! Love you girl for remembering me. I love you!!
